Inspire shared vision. Envision the future. Enlist others.

In working with The Center for Education Leadership, I have been struck by the absoluteness of this statement. Leaders, like athletes, do train to be the very best.

Contrary to belief, leadership is not a gift, an entitlement, or an opportunity to boost one’s resume. It is hard work done daily. It is the essence of building from the ground up and the cornerstone of serving from the soul.

During our November meeting, the CEL board of directors began laying the foundation of The Center for Education Leadership by defining its mission and envisioning the future—one of transformation and connectivity.

With a simple mission and clear vision, the CEL board now moves from envisioning to creating the future. First on the list is convening a design team for developing a world class leadership program for Kentucky’s principals, one that has a strong connection to the real challenges they face.

Design is a team sport. This team will take the time to think through every play, every goal, and every step. They will gaze ahead at the win, and beyond. They will bring a design to life that supports principals and enhances their effectiveness for leading schools for student success.

The CEL board of directors is to be commended for applying the power of dreams into the daily practice of leadership.

MISSION: Enhance the professional practice of Kentucky’s education leaders

VISION: To connect leaders, throughout their careers, to high quality practices, professional learning, and one another as we transform the next generation of public education
