Planning team practices essential leadership elements

KASA’s leadership institute planning team is a great example of a high energy, high performance team. The group is charged with designing and delivering the association’s annual leadership event in Louisville each July. Not only does the team train to be the very best, it also provides for others to train to be the very best.

A highlight of the 2014 event was Robyn Benincasa’s keynote address on building a world-class team. As a world champion adventure racer, a Guinness world record kayaker, and a member of the only all-female fire fighting crew in the country, Robyn is an expert on assembling high performance teams. Her keynote address to the KASA audience and her book, How Winning Works, outlined essential leadership elements from the toughest teams on earth.

The essential elements are total commitment, empathy and awareness, adversity management, mutual respect, we thinking, ownership of the project, relinquishment of ego, and kinetic leadership.

When considering these elements, it is easy to envision the KASA planning team taking on an adventure race with Robyn. The human synergy created by the team results in an amazing leadership institute for Kentucky’s school leaders each year.

As a vital part of the planning team, each member practices these essential elements of leadership—training to be the very best.  Watch this high performance team in action as they deliver a “best ever” leadership institute to you in 2015.
