Bio

Mark Kopp is the Superintendent for Franklin County Schools and this is his 24th year in education.  Prior to being named Superintendent and beginning his term on July 1, 2017, Mr. Kopp was the Chief Academic Officer/Associate Superintendent for Instructional Services for Hardin County Schools for six years, from 2011-2017.  Prior to being named Associate Superintendent, Mr. Kopp served as the Director of Secondary Instruction, Curriculum, and Assessment for Hardin County Schools from 2009-2011. Mr. Kopp came to Hardin County following a four-year term of employment as the Lead Social Studies Consultant for the Kentucky Department of Education. Before being employed by the Kentucky Department of Education, Mr. Kopp worked as a teacher, administrator, and coach at both the high school and middle school levels in the states of Ohio and Florida.

Kopp, a native of Waverly, Ohio, is certified as a School Superintendent, as well as a Level 2 Instructional Supervisor and holds a Rank 1 certification in Secondary School Social Studies and Middle School Social Studies. Mr. Kopp earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from the Ohio State University in 1993, a Master of Social Sciences degree from Ohio University in 2000, and a second Master’s Degree (in Educational Leadership) from the University of South Florida in 2005.

Mr. Kopp has provided numerous professional development sessions at both the state and national level. Kopp currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA). Kopp also serves as a “lifetime” member of the Steering Committee for the Kentucky Council for the Social Studies, an organization for which he served as President from 2008-2009. Kopp also has served as the state director of the Atlantik-Brücke program (2006-2009), and has served on the board of directors of the Economics of Prevention Grant through the University of Kentucky, the board of directors of Kids Voting USA, Kentucky Branch, and has served as a member of the Program Faculty for the University of Kentucky Social Studies Education Initial Teacher Certification Graduate Program.

Mr. Kopp lives in Frankfort with his wife of 20 years, Carrie, and their 12-year old daughter, Ava.
