Bio

Nick Brake, a 47-year-old native of northern Kentucky, is the 19th superintendent of the Owensboro Public Schools.

In his 22-year career he has worked in areas such as public K-12 education, higher education, workforce development, public policy and economic development.

Prior to coming to OPS, Dr. Brake served as President/CEO of the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation. He has also serve as a dean and vice president at the Owensboro Community and Technical College and Director of Assessment, Research and Curriculum Development for the Daviess County Public Schools.

Dr. Brake holds a Ph.D. in Education Administration and Policy from the University of Louisville. He has completed further study at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University. His bachelors and masters degrees are both in history. He has taught history, public administration, government and economics at the high school level and at Western Kentucky University, Brescia University, and the Owensboro Community and Technical College.
